"HUSH A BYE"
LC (LAURIE COHEN)
BISQUE HEAD/CELLULOID ARMS & LEGS/STUFFED CLOTH BODY
22" (56CM) tall
This is a rare doll that has been made in Australia by Laurie Cohen (LC) circa 1930 which was at the beginning of the doll making companies in Australia.
It was at a time when items such as dolls were expensive to import due to the end of World War 1 and almost at the start of World War 2.
Doll makers in Australia had to think outside the box and make do with what they could source, in order to produce items at an affordable price.
Laurie Cohen made up dolls with bisque doll heads sourced from Germany, celluloid arms and legs from Japan, and a stuffed cloth body with a fabric nappy.
He patented the idea, and called them Hush a Bye dolls and made them in various sizes. These dolls were sold just with a doll sized baby cloth nappy on, and could be either a boy or a girl doll depending on how you actually dressed them.
I am seling two of these Hush a Bye dolls.
This particular large 22" doll does not have shield painted markings on the pink cloth body but the smaller one does - please check it out as it is being sold separately.
