Mattel originally produced Chatty Cathy "the Talking Doll" in 1960-1964. She was the first talking doll hit who had a pull string mechanism and said phrases such as "please brush my hair". She captured the hearts of an entire generation of little girls. Every original Chatty Cathy doll had a subtle difference, so they were highly collectible.
Mattel has reissued her twice since then, once in 1969 and again in 1998-1999 for collectors.

This Chatty Cathy doll is a reproduction doll in her original box with all her original papers (still sealed in plastic), and still talks when her string is pulled. The string also retracts back into her body.
She has on her back:

She is all original and is wearing her reproduction blue dress, white blouse, underskirt (elastic is a little loose), panties, socks and blue shoes.
Her panties, and socks show some aged spots - see pictures.
She has lovely shoulder length blonde rooted hair with her original blue ribbon on the side, and lavender open shut eyes (may have faded a little) - see pictures.
She has her pull string in her back and she talks although it may just be a little slower than normal.
Her box is in good condition and graphics are nice and bright. Some of the inner cardboard lining has come loose.
Her original booklet etc. are still sealed in the plastic bag.
She has her original paper booklet around her wrist and it does show some wear - see pictures.

Chatty Cathy comes in her original box with her original tagged red and white apron dress, red sunsuit, shoe horn, white socks, one red shoe and original wrist hang tag.
She is made of vinyl.
Chatty Cathy dolls have such an endearing face with those big eyes and the sprinkling of freckles across her nose and under her eyes.
Her cute face has open and shut eyes, freckles across the bridge of her nose and thick shoulder length rooted blonde hair which you can brush. The hair has an appearance of having two colours in it, and is held back with her original red headband.
She has a pull string in her back and a voice box at her front. She talks reasonably clearly.
Her head, arms and legs can be moved to different positions.
She has the most adorable cute little face.
Her original box has some repairs to it, but is still very colourful.

Chatty Cathy is the 1998 reproduction version of the original 1960 doll.
She no longer talks although she still has her pull string. It pulls out ok, but it takes quite a long time to eventually retract into her back.
There is a rattle sound inside her body which makes me think something has perhaps broken or come off her sound system. Not sure.
Her blonde hair is very thick and full and tied back with a new hair ribbon.
She is still wearing her original reproduction tagged red and white skirt apron, and her red sunsuit underneath.
She has lost her shoes and socks but still has her original shoe horn on her arm.
There are some marks to her arms, and on one leg. See photos

This is a vintage circa 1960 blonde haired Chatty Cathy doll.
She is wearing her original outfit which consists of a red romper with a white and red apron style overdress. The sheer white material has a flocked pattern.
One of her red shoes is missing the bow on the front.
When I originally received her from USA her string worked and she talked but when I pulled her string a couple of times it actually broke. I still have the round plastic pull ring.
She has rooted blonde hair and open and shut blue eyes. She has an original red velvet type head band in her hair but I do not think I have photographed it.
She has a speaker covered voice box in the front of her.
She is a pretty doll.

vintage original chatty cathy 1962 red velvet party dress with remnants of white tag aud $75.00
This is a genuine rare original vintage Chatty Cathy red velvet and white skirt party dress from 1962 which will fit 20" doll.
The label has been cut off or has broken off over the period of time and you can see the white tag portion sewn into the red velvet material.
The red velvet bodice is in good condition, and the dress has :
.white peter pan collars,
.original red satin ribbon around the bodice which ties up into a bow at the back of the dress
.white shirt has two rows of lace, and in between the lace there are 4 rows of pink tucks..

This cute vintage outfit was made for a 20" Chatty Cathy doll circa 1960.
It comprises of a top and matching pants.
I am not sure if it has been hand made or actually factory made as it has silver press snaps on the back of it.
It has been made very well, and there is a well done repair to the back of the top. See photos.
The elastic in the pants has been stretched over time as you would expect.
