COMPOSITION/CLOTH BODY VINTAGE DOLL
"SHIRLEY TEMPLE"- look a like
CIRC 1930-1940
with replica Shirley Temple badge
We have done a little research into these type of unmarked Shirley Temple type dolls.
We found that Ideal actually made unmarked Shirley Temple composition dolls. This was done so Ideal wouldn't have to pay royalties to "Shirley Temple".
Whether this is the case for this doll is unknown as she does not come with any markings that we could find.
Never the less we have named our doll "Shirley".
Shirley is a vintage pretty composition doll with a fabric body, and would be approx 70 years old. She is not in pristine condition, but could be repaired and restored back to her former glory if desired.
Her face and body has general crazing on it which is consistent with the age of her and is usual for these old dolls.
We believe she has:-
- her original painted eyebrows,
- painted upper eyelashes
- "real"(mohair) eyelashes to both eyes (one eye has full long eyelashes, other eye is full but short),
- original brown open and shut tin eyes which have faded over the years,
- original red mouth paint and
- 4 white teeth
-replaced mohair blonde Shirley wig.
Her arms and legs show crazing as well and may have been repaired by her previous owners, not really sure. Some parts of the crazing is showing signs of splitting but have a look at our pictures which will show everything we are talking about.
She has a composition head, neck plate, composition (movable) arms and 3/4 composition legs, and a vintage original cloth body.
Her cloth body appears to be the original vintage material and is a creamy brown colour. There are some worn material spots where the legs have been joined to the material. There also seems to be an non working mama in the back of the body.
Shirley is wearing one of her famous dresses - a replica dress called the ''Duck Dress''.
The bodice is made of black velvet type fabric and the pleated dress is of a off white taffeta type fabric. There are two applique ducks on the front of the bodice.
Underneath the dress is a vintage full white petticoat, and white panties. On her feet are stocking type white socks and black vinyl laceup shoes.
Shirley is really a very nice old doll, and our description makes her seem worse than she actually is, but we do believe in complete descriptions of our items without being asked.
i(We have not tried to clean her, and will leave that to the discretion of the new owner.)
A lovely rare doll.
